With more than 120,000 acres of water, Bays de Noc and our local rivers are truly a fisherman’s dream come true. Welcome to Fishing in Bays de Noc and Our Local Rivers It’s early morning. You’re dropping a line in sparkling clear waters. You’ve heard fish tales about the abundance of walleye, bass, Northern pike and perch. You hope to catch one or two, but really have your fingers crossed to catch a batch and fry them up tonight. Between Little Bay de Noc’s 30,000+ acres and Big Bay de Noc’s 90,000 acres, you’re about to discover some of the best fishing anywhere in the U. S.A. Multiple species can be caught from boats or from the shore of the Bays, inland lakes, or the rivers and streams that flow into Lake Michigan. Trophy Walleyes You can bag trophy walleyes in the fall, while enjoying productive months of fishing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Our waters are carefully managed and protected throughout the year. We’ve supplemented the supply with aggressive fish planting, including thousands of walleyes each year to sustain the fishery. Walleye Season Opens May 15th; Bass Season Starts May 31st Early season fishing offers you the opportunity to cast from your boats or from shore. In fact, some of the best fishing around these waters happens in depths of less than five feet, with frequent reports of a monster Crappie or a sleek green Northern Pike. You can also charter a boat for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. During summer and fall, trolling is typically extremely productive, especially for the salmon that start running in Big Bay de Noc each July. But as the seasons turn and temperatures start to drop, the waters freeze, acting as a natural catalyst to a village filled with thousands of ice shanties. Every winter, anglers will drop their lines in hope of catching some of the many species of bottom feeders. To help you optimize your fishing, keep an eye on local weather forecasts.
