Historic Splendid Valley is an inclusive entity promoting Brighton and Adams County’s agricultural history and agritourism opportunities. Encompassing lands south of Brighton from the South Platte River east onto the plains, this area is focused on preserving farmland and creating innovative opportunities to establish closer connections between people, farming, and nature. The name and brand are inspired by a rich agricultural heritage. It is said that Brighton’s founder, Daniel F. Carmichael, “took a fancy to the place and determined there should be a town here that would be a credit to the splendid valley of the Platte,” (Brighton Standard Blade, March 3, 1911). DISTRICT PLAN & VISION

The City of Brighton and Adams County adopted the District Plan in 2016 with goals of preserving important farmland, encouraging local food production and consumption, and promoting agritourism in the south Brighton area, now known as Historic Splendid Valley. This area had been identified in previous land use plans, including the 2012 Adams County Parks, Open Space & Trails Master Plan, which called it “the single best place within the Denver Metro region for cultivating, processing, and distributing food that is integrated into an urban surrounding.” City and county staff continue to work to fulfill this vision for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
